Carbon County Sheriff’s Office reports that over the last month the Carbon County Road Crew has reported multiple stolen traffic control signs throughout the County. This creates a safety concern for the motoring public. In addition, these stolen signs have a significant impact to the taxpayers as the signs have to be replaced at taxpayer expense and employees have to spend time putting up new signs.
The County Commission reports approximately eight stop signs and numerous other signs have been stolen. They estimate approximately $6,000 in damages in the last few months.
Carbon County authorities are asking for the public’s assistance by coming forward with any information regarding the theft of the signs. If you see suspicious vehicles please report them to the Sheriff’s Office at 406-446-1234. Signs can be returned to any of the County Shops without facing criminal charges. On the other hand, Carbon County takes these offenses very seriously and if caught in possession of County property, appropriate criminal charges will be filed.
