Carbon County will experience strongest winds on Saturday

At 7:04 p.m., the Billings office of the National Weather Service sent out an email warniing of expected strong winds that are expected to affect the western foothills tonight into Friday night. A weather system will bring rain and snow to the area Friday night, changing to all snow for the weekend with areas of blowing snow. As of this morning, the prediction for Carbon County was to expect to experience the strongest winds on Saturday.

• Strong winds western foothills tonight through Friday night

  • West to southwest winds will increase in the Livingston area, Beartooth Foothills and Big Timber tonight and will remain strong through Friday night

    • Winds gusting up to 70 mph in Livingston and Nye beginning this evening; winds gusting to 60 mph in Big Timber beginning later tonight

    • Hazardous crosswinds affecting I-90, roads around Nye, and Highway 191 from Big Timber to Harlowton.

• Rain changing to snow and possible icy roads Friday night

  • Cold front will bring rain transitioning to snow Friday night

    • Rain could freeze up on the roads as colder air works into the area, causing hazardous driving conditions
