Seventh Annual Project Footprints Community Walk and Breakfast This Saturday
Come for the Walk or just for a hearty breakfast to support your community
By Denise Rivette
The Seventh Annual Project Footprints Community Walk will take place this Saturday, September 21. Participants and supporters are welcome to meet at the Joliet Community Center at 209 East Front Avenue in Joliet. The event is expected to end around noon. The Joliet Lions Club will be hosting a donation breakfast from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the Joliet Community Center for participants in the Community Walk and others interested in supporting Project Footprints. All donations will go to Project Footprints to support their valuable work.
The mission of Joliet-based Project Footprints is to fill the gaps left by other efforts to support those in need due to emergency circumstances. There are three main branches to this 501(c) organization. Their financial branch can help monetarily. Connecting care can help get you in touch with other providers and organizations that can aid you. And last, but not least, is their comfort throw program that provides individuals with a sense of comfort and a demonstration that the community cares.
Morgan McQuillan, a Joliet native and resident who was born with a genetic predisposition for cancer, has felt the love and support of her family and community throughout her life while also seeing that there are some people who haven’t had that experience. This compassionate woman has made it her mission to try to reach those who fall through traditional support networks to not only provide as much material support as possible, but also to provide those her organization reaches with the knowledge they are valued and loved as members of the community.
To that end she founded Project Footprints to give back to the community that has given her so much. In addition to leading the organization she founded, she worked as a librarian while successfully pursuing a master’s degree in clinical social work so she can provide even more services to the community. If all that weren’t enough for this powerhouse, she currently does all of this while going through treatment to help her battle yet another bout of cancer. And she does it all with a smile on her face and concern for others in her heart.
