Representative Troy Downing Reports on His First 100 Days in Office
From U.S. Representative Troy Downing
My First 100 Days
100 days in and we're off to the races. So far, I've hosted 2 telephone town halls with nearly 12,500 attendees. That's more people than could fit in the MetraPark in Billings! I look forward to hosting more events like this in the future. You can sign up to receive notifications about upcoming townhalls HERE.
Since January 3, my staff has fielded over 3,900 calls from constituents and have sent over 23,000 pieces of correspondence. Accessibility is something I hold in the highest regard, and my office will continue to pick up the phone to hear what you have to say.
I have introduced 8 bills to protect Montana mining, support our tribal communities, combat illegal immigration, expand access to capital for rural small business, and eliminate duplicative bureaucracy. I have also lent my support to 71 bills that strengthen our second amendment rights, promote election integrity, and support Montana's strong veteran and active duty military populations.
My district staff has been working overtime to help folks with federal agencies. Put simply, we're getting results. So far, my casework team has closed 58 cases and has returned over $113,595 to constituents.
If you or someone you know needs help with a federal agency, from the VA to the Social Security Administration, please get in touch with my office here.
President Trump's First 100 Days
Promises made, promises kept! Since day one, President Trump had held true to the promises he made on the campaign trail.
Under President Trump, border crossings have hit record lows and the Administration has launched the largest deportation operation in U.S. History, demolished foreign drug cartels, removed Tren De Aragua and MS-13, and reinstated the successful "Remain in Mexico" policy.
POTUS is ensuring that America is not only energy independent but energy dominant. President Trump has expanded oil and natural gas production, withdrawn from the Paris climate agreement, ended the natural gas export ban, terminated the Green New Deal, and has unconditionally supported the coal industry.
Trump's policies are onshoring investment and putting American workers first. In his first 100 days, gross domestic investment soared by 22%. Already, foreign and domestic investment has exceeded $5 trillion and is expected to bring 451,000 jobs back to the states. Companies like Apple, OpenAI, Oracle, SoftBank, and TSMC have pledged to invest hundreds of billions and create thousands of jobs.
Egg prices are down, gas prices are down, and the most recent jobs report beat expectations by 38,000 jobs. President Trump is making life more affordable for all Americans, and I look forward to working with House Republicans to codify his executive actions, extend the Trump Tax Cuts, and deliver on the voters' mandate.
Down in District
Recently, I had the opportunity to travel back to Montana to visit with constituents around the district. One stop took me to the Phillips 66 refinery in Billings. This refinery has been in operation since 1949 and currently employs around 290 staff.
The tour was an amazing opportunity for my district and D.C. staff to learn about the oil and gas industry and the impact it has in MT-02. Thank you to the team at Phillips 66 for a great visit!
While in Helena, I participated in a round table hosted by the Montana Petroleum Association. This discussion on natural resources and agriculture brought together key industry stakeholders who informed me and my staff of the issues on their radar and the ways I can help in Washington.
We heard from representatives from the Montana Mining Association, Treasure State Resources Association, Northwestern Energy, Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation, Montana Renewables, Montana Farm Bureau Federation, Montana Stockgrowers, Montana Agribusiness Association, Montana Loggings Association, and the Montana Coal Council.
I was also able to stop by the Helena Housing Authority for a tour of their headquarters and a chat with leadership. HHA manages 30 sites around the Treasure State's capital city and has been serving the community for over 87 years.
Thank you for all you do to help our underserved populations and informing me on the ways I can assist your efforts.
I finished up my trip with a tour of the Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation's fire aviation support hangar.
With fire season right around the corner, I look forward to working with Director Kaster and her team to find innovative solutions to the threats that wildfires and other risk factors pose to Montana's natural resources.
Bulletin Board
I have been hosting town hall events regularly throughout my first 100 days to hear about the issues that matter the most to Montanans, and I relish this opportunity for healthy discourse. Hard questions, easy questions, we take them all.
