Red Flag Warning and Extreme Heat Today
By Denise Rivette
The Billings office of the National Weather Service (NWS) warns of critical fire weather conditions this afternoon and evening, due to hot temperatures, low humidities, gusty winds, increased thunderstorm activity, and a wind shift associated with a Pacific cold front. New fire starts and rapid fire growth are possible. Open burning prohibited in Carbon County. Please take care to not spark a fire!
NWS further warns it will be VERY HOT today. This level of heat affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration. Impacts are likely in some health systems, heat-sensitive industries and infrastructure. Be sure to stay hydrated, wear light colored clothing, reduce outdoor activities, stay in air-conditioned rooms and help the elderly, kids and pets to stay cool. A cold front arrives late tonight, which will be followed by a cooler Friday.
