NWS warns of hot, dry, windy conditions this week
Any new fires likely to be human caused - Take Precautions!
The National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office in Billings sent out a heads up on on Sunday afternoon predicting a period of hot and dry conditions that will impact our area this week. The hottest temperatures will be Tuesday and Thursday. Temperatures near or breaking triple digits will elevate the danger from heat related illness for those working or recreating outdoors. Hot, dry, and breezy conditions will also elevate grass fire concerns across the region. While fire fuels (grasses) are not critical at this time, over the course of the week ahead that may change significantly given the forecast conditions. A cold front is forecast to arrive by Friday which will bring cooler wetter conditions into next weekend.
Highs in Bridger are predicted to be 98 degrees on Tuesday and 100 degrees on Thursday. Highs in Roberts are predicted to be 93 degrees on Tuesday and 95 degrees on Thursday. Joliet is expected to be one degree cooler than Bridger on Tuesday but anticipated to meet its 100 degree mark on Thursday. Cooler spots in the county are anticipated to be Roscoe at 91 degrees on Tuesday and 93 degrees on Thursday and Red Lodge at 87 degrees and 90 degrees.
Lightning is not anticipated this week, so any fire starts will be mainly human caused. Use Caution!
