Nick Vertz and Ted Jamba of the National Weather Service gave an update on the past month’s weather and future outlook. As you can see on the map below, our local area snow pack is currently about 64% of normal.
Last weekend’s wind event was a doozy with Belfry experiencing the highest recorded winds at 82 mph. Red Lodge experienced gusts of 59 mph. Even higher local gusts were experienced in the mountains and higher foothills.
Although February brought near normal precipitation, as you can see on the map below, Carbon County is currently “much below average” in precipitation.
Carbon County is currently experiencing moderate drought conditions.
Drought conditions are currently expected to persist through May.
Currently, the three month outlook is for temperatures leaning above average with average precipitation.
The drought outlook isn’t great right now for Carbon County, but a few storm systems in the coming months could turn the situation around.
