Montana Highway Patrol Commissions 12 New Troopers

Currently recruiting for trooper positions through March 20

Graduates of Montana Highway Patrol's 78th Advanced Academy

HELENA - The Montana Highway Patrol (MHP) commissioned 12 new troopers at a graduation ceremony at the Civic Center in Helena Friday. Attorney General Austin Knudsen and Lieutenant Colonel Kurt Sager addressed the new troopers prior to their badge pinning and taking the oath of office.

"I'm confident that the new troopers are prepared to meet the challenges they will face as they begin their careers protecting Montanans from dangerous criminals and keeping our communities safe," Attorney General Knudsen said.

"This is the future of the Montana Highway Patrol, and our future is bright. They are ready to serve their community with pride and dedication to keeping our state safe," MHP Colonel Steve Lavin said. 

The 12 new troopers were part of the 78th MHP Advanced Academy. They have spent 24 weeks going through and intense training schedule. They come from all parts the United States: Arizona, California, Florida, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey and Washington. Four of the new troopers are from Montana.

• Ronaldo Chavez, originally from Missoula, MT - Initial Duty Station Wolf Point

• Alexander D. Crandall, originally from Shevlin, MN - Initial Duty Station Bozeman

• Roberto "Daniel" Erekson, originally from Billings, MT - Initial Duty Station Miles City

• Manti D. Jeffs, originally from Colorado City, AZ - Initial Duty Station Choteau

• Thomas G. Kachler, originally from Newfoundland, NJ - Initial Duty Station Glasgow

• Jerad R. O'Dell, originally from Overton, NV - Initial Duty Station Butte

• Gamal "James" Selim, originally from Jacksonville, FL - Initial Duty Station Whitehall

• James T. Taylor, originally from San Luis Obispo, CA - Initial Duty Station Bozeman

• Dylan W. Walls, originally from Bremerton, WA - Initial Duty Station Big Timber

• Josiah "Joe" Wamsley, originally from Helena, MT - Initial Duty Station Drummond
