Montana Independent News posed the same four questions to all candidates in the United States Representative race in District 2. Republican Ken Bogner’s views are presented in their entirety below.
What are the Montana values that will guide your decision-making?
The first is adhering to the U.S. Constitution, that is the oath taken before serving in Congress and that must be the priority. As I have done as a Montana Senator, I put the people I am elected to represent first. I take that responsibility seriously so when making decisions, I put "We the people" first.
What skills, knowledge and experience do you possess that make you the better candidate?
I am the only candidate in the race with both military service and legislative experience to tackle the national security issues America faces. I did border security missions as a U.S. Marine in Iraq and, as a Montana Senator, I passed the bill to prohibit foreign adversaries from buying our land. I have the experience fighting to protect our country and will take those proven results to Congress.
What are your top priorities to address during your term if you are elected?
Stopping the invasion of our country, getting the federal spending under control, and stopping political corruption.
What legislative language would you propose or support to address those priorities?
I have already passed the bill here in Montana to prohibit foreign adversaries from buying our land so I have that ready to take to Congress. We also need to finish the gaps in the southern border wall, reinstate the 'remain-in-Mexico' policy, and stop the catch and release of illegal immigrants.
I would introduce a balanced budget amendment that would stop the out-of-control spending in Congress.
And I would support ending the ability for members of Congress, and their families, to trade stocks while holding office. People are using Congress as a way to get rich, and they are using insider trading to do it. This must end.
