DETAILS
Heavy rain is currently forecast to move into the area Sunday afternoon and continue through Monday. Scattered showers continue into Tuesday.
Rainfall amounts are uncertain. The probability for at least an inch of liquid precipitation from 6:00 a.m. MDT Sunday-6:00 a.m. MDT Tuesday is 54% at Billings, 35% at Miles City, 41% at Baker, 23% at Livingston and 46% at Sheridan.
Rainfall amounts should quickly decrease from west to east Monday night.
Flooding Concerns
Latest snow depth in the foothills below 6000' was 6 to 12 inches. It is uncertain how much of this will melt with warm weather on Saturday. If the snow remains, flooding from rain on snow could be a concern for the foothills.
There are concerns regarding possible heavy rain on the burn scars Sunday through Monday, including the Elk Fire, Robertson Draw and Remington. Snow levels are uncertain and are forecast to range from 8000'-10,000' at 6 AM MDT Sunday, then 6000'-9000' by 6 AM MDT Monday, then 6000'-8000' by 6 PM MDT Monday.
Rivers are running low so while flooding is not likely on larger waterways, smaller streams could see significant rises.
Mountain Snow
While snow levels remain uncertain, forecast snow amounts will range from 7 inches in the Northeast Big Horns to 15 inches in the higher elevations of the Beartooths/Absarokas.
Travel and recreation in the high country may be impacted.
