Five Dead in Four Traffic Accidents Over Four Hours Yesterday
By Denise Rivette
This morning I awoke to find four fatal vehicle crash reports in my inbox. All of the accidents occurred yesterday within a four hour span.
At 6:20 p.m. in Gallatin County a Chevy Tahoe ran off the road and collided with a tree. Both occupants died at the scene after the vehicle was consumed by flames. Speed and alcohol are suspected contributing factors. Seat belt use unknown.
At 6:24 in Sweetgrass County a Dodge Ram 2500 failed to negotiate a curve and exited the roadway on the left, overcorrected and exited roadway on the right overturning several times ejecting the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle. The driver was transported to a hospital and succumbed to his injuries. No seat belt was in use.
At 7:42 p.m. in Jefferson County a Ford Edge struck and killed a bicyclist. Speed and alcohol are suspected contributing factors.
At 10:19 p.m. in Treasure County a Dodge Ram 1500 failed to negotiate a turn and went off the road and crashed into a tree. The driver and sole occupant died at the scene. No contributing factors suspected. No seat belt was in use.
Friendly Driving Reminders:
Buckle your seat belt and use all safety equipment properly.
Drive alert and without impairment - If you’ve been partying or are sleepy, stay where you are. If you are hosting a party, make it a sleepover for those who have driven.
Even if you are late, don’t hurry. Far better to make it alive than not make it at all.
Slow down at night, when visibility is impaired, and when road conditions are not dry and clear.
Be aware of the area all around you. Even if you are driving perfectly, vehicles and other hazards are unpredictable. That’s why they are called accidents.
Make sure you.
In addition, keep your fuel tank at least 1/4 full, make sure you have a shovel and emergency survival equipment and supplies in your vehicle. Make sure your phone is charged. Make sure someone knows the route you are traveling and knows you arrived safely.
