January 15
A sow black bear and her two cubs were spotted in a tree near Red Lodge. The caller advised that they weren’t doing anything wrong, he just thought it was strange that they were out in the frigid temperatures. Dispatch agreed and forwarded the info to Fish, Wildlife & Parks. Upon closer examination, the bears were simply well-fed turkeys.
A caller stated her neighbor had informed her that her mailbox was in the road. Upon inspection, the mailbox post was broken and there were tire tracks in the vicinity, so a call was placed to dispatch to report that something suspicious had taken place. The responding Deputy also investigated and determined that the incident appeared to be accidental in nature and, since the mailbox owner was not going to report the incident to insurance, the investigation was terminated.
January 16
A concerned caller reported that the apartment next to her appeared to have a broken water pipe as it had water flowing out the door, and no one was home. Public works was contacted to assist with stopping the deluge.
Numerous calls came in to report a structure fire near Edgar. The residence rapidly became completely engulfed as fire units from Edgar, Bridger, Fromberg and Joliet, as well as Carbon County Sheriff Deputies, Bridger Police Chief Mike Buechler and ambulance crews quickly responded to the scene. Tragically, the house and its contents were completely consumed by the inferno. The house was unoccupied by the six children and two adults who resided there. Word of the tragedy spread quickly, and the community began to rally with donated items and funds to assist the displaced family.
January 17
RLPD stopped a car in a traffic stop, which ended up with the vehicle getting towed into the RLPD impound after a consented search yielded drug paraphernalia. Once the vehicle had been searched upon an issued search warrant, the female driver was booked into YCDF on an outstanding warrant as well as her new drug charges.
A deputy responded south of Roscoe to a call about a suspicious man late at night. It was found that the man was innocently knocking on a neighbor’s door to ask for help with a flat tire. The caller was satisfied with this fact and said they’ll be able to sleep now that they know nothing is wrong.
January 18
A multitude of people called dispatch, some via 911, to ask that something be done about all their frozen pipes. They were all told this is not within dispatch or law’s purview and were given advice on thawing out their pipes or asked to, more appropriately, call a plumber for their issues.
January 19
An intoxicated man, who was invited into a house to stay for a few nights, taunted the homeowner to call 911 to have the cops make him leave after she wanted him gone. So she did. While a deputy was en route to see what was going on, the man saw that the homeowner made good on his taunt and he left on foot to another friend’s house. The caller asked that nothing be done further, as simply making the call seemed to do the trick for her.
January 20
Reports of an area of road with drifting came into dispatch advising that one lane of the highway was blocked, necessitating vehicles driving into the wrong lane. DOT was advised and stated their crews were out and working on several troublesome areas.
The driver of a vehicle with a flat tire called dispatch requesting help getting a tow with no need for law enforcement response. MHP Trooper arrived on scene to lend a hand. The driver ended up being processed and cited for DUI.
Execution of a search warrant uncovered evidence which led to charges on several individuals as well as the arrest and incarceration of one of them.
January 21
An investigation is on-going for the vandalism and attempted break in of an ATM. Surveillance footage from the area is being gathered and will be scrutinized.
An argument that became physical was responded to by Deputies, and concluded with one of the parties being arrested and jailed for the assault.
