February 12
Deputies responded to a backroad after a concerned citizen called in to report someone with no lights bicycling in the middle of the night. Upon arrival, it was found to be a young, teenaged girl. She was miles from home and her family did not know she was gone. She accepted a ride back to town from a deputy and was put back into the care of her mother.
A woman called the Sheriff’s Office wanting help in getting her dog back. However, the woman had willingly and legally signed off ownership of the dog prior to going to jail for another DUI, and the person who took the dog in was not willing to give the dog back now that the woman was out of jail. The investigating deputy advised both parties that this was a civil matter and told the woman that she would need to attempt a court process if she wanted to try to get her dog back.
February 14
Multiple units responded to one vehicle rollover on Highway 212 south of Roberts. Driver was pronounced deceased at scene.
Several calls regarding black smoke and flames near Bridger were called in, and each caller was advised it was simply a controlled burn in progress. If you see a smoke and/or flames, please check the Carbon County controlled burn map to see if it is a scheduled burn before calling Dispatch.
Dispatch took a report of a neighbor shining a laser through the caller’s windows to harass her.
February 15
Three unrelated business panic alarms were received early in the morning within 10 minutes of each other. All alarms were checked and all were unknowingly set off.
Caller complained that he was unable to pass a snow plow on the highway due to the white out conditions that it was creating while plowing. The impatient driver was advised to slow down and yield to plows, as snow movement/blowing is an aspect of the job at hand.
February 16
Law enforcement spoke with a dog owner after complaints of their numerous dogs being outside for an extended period of time in the cold. Owner agreed to bring them in.
Numerous crashes occurred throughout the day, including a car vs snowplow. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.
February 17
A concerned caller reported that an attempt to thaw pipes with a blow torch led to the outside wall of their house catching fire. A request was made for the fire department to come to the residence to insure there was no burning within the walls. Several units from Joliet Fire responded and determined that nothing was aflame or amiss.
A considerate expecting parent phoned dispatch to warn them that a gender reveal would be held shortly, and the reveal involved the use of Tannerite (exploding targets), but would be held outside any city limits.
An individual who attended a local basketball game received increasing attention as she was escorted from the game due to behaviors, and then she stole a truck from the gas station parking lot. Deputies were able to apprehend the vehicle and troublesome driver who was taken to Yellowstone County Detention Facility as there were also outstanding warrants from other counties along with her local charges.
February 18
Several vehicles that were parked at trail heads had a window broken and items and money stolen out of them. An investigation is continuing, along with increased patrol of local trail heads and campgrounds.
