A crash outside Joliet between two pickups resulted in the response from Carbon County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO), Montana Highway Patrol (MHP), Joliet Fire and EMS. Both drivers were checked out by EMS and released at scene with no injuries reported.
A crash outside of Joliet involving two vehicles and a horse resulted in vehicle fires and the death of the drivers and horse. Carbon County Sheriff’s Office Sheriff, Undersheriff, and Deputies responded as well as MHP Troopers, Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) Game Wardens, Forest Service Rangers, Joliet Fire and EMS, and assistance offered by Red Lodge Fire Rescue. The crash is still under investigation.
A snake caused alarm at the door of Essential Fuels. Said serpent was successfully relocated by Bridger Police Department (BPD).
September 30
A report of people walking around the mine outside of Bearcreek in the night was called in. A sheriff’s Deputy responded and investigated. The involved people were warned about trespassing in the area and they left.
October 1
A request to help locate an individual that was last reported to be in Bridger resulted in the search by BPD and CCSO. Searching around the last known location did not yield any results. Billings Police Department and Wyoming Park County were assisting in the effort to locate the individual as well. Unfortunately, the individual was not located in Carbon County and later was found to be deceased elsewhere.
October 2
A Deputy came across a vehicle that appeared to be in a crash. Upon investigating the area, it was found that a cow had been struck and was found dead in the ditch. No reports of the crash were called in by passersby or by the driver. MHP took over the crash and had the vehicle towed.
October 3
A road rage incident between two drivers resulted in both drivers going to the Red Lodge Police Station to report on each other. Red Lodge Police Department (RLPD) took the report of both drivers and provided warnings to both of them.
A large column of smoke was reported outside of Silesia. Joliet Fire was placed on standby while a Sheriff’s Deputy investigated as it appeared to be an intentional field burning. It was confirmed that it was intentional and the individuals performing the burn had an active burn permit as well as a water truck to monitor the fire.
AS OF 10/3/25 THE BURN PERMIT SYSTEM IS OPEN. Please visit https://carboncounty.burnpermits.com/ to purchase or activate your permit. There is also a map at the bottom of the main page that shows all active burns in the county. Please refer to the map to verify that there is no active burn in the area where you see smoke.
October 5
With the dropping temperatures and moisture that followed, multiple slide offs and crashes occurred today. While Joliet Fire was responding to one crash, a command vehicle was crashed into. Carbon County Sheriff’s Deputies and MHP responded as well as additional Joliet Fire and EMS. Minor injuries and damage were reported and one driver was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
With the fall season here, CCSO would like to remind individuals to drive with care when weather and road conditions are inclement. Be sure to leave room for braking and do NOT tailgate other vehicles.
