April 1
A woman attempted to break up a fight between two dogs and was bitten in the process. She reported it to dispatch and took herself to the hospital to have her heavily bleeding wound treated.
RLPD tested a $20 bill that a local business received after one of the workers believed something to be off about it. The bill was deemed to be authentic and was returned back to the business.
A man reported that his vehicle has been stolen out of Washington. He was advised that there is nothing the sheriff’s office here can do about it. He was provided with the correct agency’s phone number so he can report it to them.
April 2
A deputy spoke with a woman who was worried about forgetting to take her plates off a vehicle she had sold. She said the buyers were not returning her calls asking for the plates back. She wondered if she was allowed to find the vehicle and take her plates off herself. The deputy told her to contact an attorney as this is a civil matter.
April 3
Law was requested to perform extra patrol in an area that had reported thefts.
A woman asked a deputy to investigate her claims that a dog breeder/boarder was lying about the whereabouts of her dog that she was boarding after she was unable to obtain her dog back alive.
A two-vehicle collision resulted in a vehicle’s airbags deploying. The young woman was checked out by EMS but was okay. The crash was turned over to MHP.
RLPD interviewed parents in the middle of a dispute in regards to their parenting plan and how they need to come to terms with handling things differently for the sake of everyone involved.
April 4
A man whose family was worried about and hadn’t seen for a while was entered into the missing person database. One of the family members called hours later to report that the man is staying in a hotel out of state. His missing person record was then cancelled.
A clinic reached out for a welfare check on a veteran. The vet was found the same day safe and sound. His new phone’s battery had died and he was unable to verify that he was okay with those trying to check in on him.
A head-on collision on a back road prompted law, EMS and fire to check on the injuries from the air bag deployment and assess the damage done. A medical transport to a hospital took one of the drivers in for treatment, and both vehicles were towed.
A father called wanting to talk to a deputy about his child being taken from school by his ex. Before a deputy could respond, the father called back to advise that he arrived to the school to get the scoop, only to learn that he had overreacted. The child was safe at daycare, and there was simply a miscommunication between third parties.
A man struck two elk with his vehicle and called 911. Thankfully, he was uninjured. A deputy and MHP processed the crash and his damaged vehicle was towed.
April 5
A homeowner called to report a residential burglary after a shop door was kicked in. The homeowner scared the suspects off just before they entered inside. The homeowner plans on putting up extra security measures on his property and requested extra patrol in the area.
A local complained of vehicles blocking business parking spaces with vehicles. RLPD advised him that it was occurring on private property and that the business owners would need to contact a towing company if they wanted the vehicles moved.
A deputy checked on a male driver after someone called in his poor driving practices of speeding up and slowing down. The driver was not impaired, but explained that he has been battling vehicle front end issues since he left Utah. He stated he is traveling the US on hiking trips with his dogs and is apparently refusing to allow his vehicle issues to slow him down today.
Multiple people reported a car speeding through the streets of Red Lodge. The car was located and pulled over. After contacting the driver, he was arrested for traffic offenses including DUI. Vehicle was towed. The driver was cited for reckless driving and aggravated DUI, then released to a sober family member.
April 6
RLPD sergeant and trainee pulled over a vehicle after it took a wide turn and nearly struck the patrol vehicle. The male driver was found to be heavily intoxicated, but refused to provide a breath analysis or perform field sobriety tests. He was arrested and his vehicle was towed. He was taken to the hospital for a blood draw after RLPD obtained a warrant. The driver was cited and provided a ride home, where he was released.
Ambulances transported a driver and young passenger to the hospital for injuries obtained during a car crash after it went into a ditch. Red Lodge Fire crews helped with traffic control. An RLPD officer assisted with the scene until deputies and MHP arrived to take over and get the damaged vehicle towed away.
Dispatch received a 911 from a woman in distress, but could not get answers before the call dropped. However, her location was found and confirmed by other agencies. It was a disturbance between a woman and a man that had just assaulted her, and they were traveling just inside Stillwater County. Vehicle was located and incident determined to have occurred in Stillwater County.
April 7
A deputy initiated a traffic stop and his K9 positively indicated for drugs on the suspicious vehicle. The vehicle was towed to impound and the driver and his passenger were given a ride to their home.
