July 1
Red Lodge Fire was en route to extricate a woman’s fingers that were caught in the bear latch of a trash can when she called back to report that she was finally able to free herself.
A rollover that appeared to have happened sometime earlier was reported. MHP was investigating the crash when a related call was received. A daughter called claiming that her mother told her she had crashed her car and couldn’t remember where. She was heavily intoxicated and left on foot. A deputy and MHP troopers located the mother at a bar and the call was fully turned over to MHP to complete investigation and issue citations.
Upon arriving on scene to a domestic disturbance, a deputy interviewed spouses going through a divorce. The husband was at the residence to retrieve his vehicle per an agreement. The deputy noticed he had a black eye and provided him with information on reporting violence when it occurs. The man stated he would stay away from the residence and in safety. The deputy forwarded the case to an attorney.
July 2
RLPD officer did some extra patrolling around a residence for a woman who called repeatedly stating she was living alone and scared and citing odd things that had been happening near her house lately.
Two RLPD officers arrested a young woman after she assaulted her boyfriend with a fan. She was taken to YCDF on PFMA charges and a no contact order was issued to her.
July 3
FWP warden asked for medical crews be dispatched to Cooney after he received word that a boat capsized and sank, leaving several people stranded in the water. Both Red Lodge and Joliet EMS responded and treated a couple men who had ailments including slight hypothermia and skin irritation due to fuel exposure. Thankfully, the boat was all that was lost, and no one needed to be transported to a hospital.
July 4
Three local bars, three fights, all happening within 20 minutes. Quite a way to begin our Independence Day celebrations. All parties were separated with no major injuries.
Report of a vehicle being stolen was made. Deputies were unable to find it locally, but it was entered into the national database and an investigation is ongoing.
A frantic mother contacted Dispatch when she lost contact with her 33-year-old son who was camping at MK campground. She expressed grave concern when he did not respond to her calls, and his position did not change on her mapping tool. Undersheriff, Deputy, and Forest Service Warden responded to the call to discover that the male was, indeed, camping at MK campground where there is little to no cell service. The mother was advised.
Numerous calls were received throughout the day complaining of fireworks as well as numerous calls reporting missing dogs that ran away. Several citations were given in city limits, and dogs were reunited with owners.
Deputy along with Roberts Fire responded to a brush fire caused by fireworks. A large group of people had also responded and helped to extinguish the blaze before it could spread any further. While leaving the scene of the fire, the Roberts crew discovered an additional blaze near Cooney Dam that was apparently the result of other fireworks. It was extinguished by the observant crew, who remained in the area for a time in case of further conflagration.
July 5
A couple with a history of disagreements had an escalation, and one of the parties reported domestic violence. Although the parties state that they are no longer in a relationship, they are spending time together which led to the latest incident. The suspect received several charges, but the responding RLPD Sergeant was unable to remand him to YCDF due to overcrowding. The male received a number of citations along with a no contact order to stay away from the other involved party.
A report of two small children left in a vehicle outside of a local bar was investigated by a RLPD Sergeant and Officer. The children were found to be unharmed, the parents were located, citations were issued and a report was made to Child Protective Services.
July 6
A juvenile hiking and camping with a group was reported to have a possible ankle fracture. Sheriff’s office, Red Lodge EMS, Forest Service and Search and Rescue worked together to get a crew with horses to reach the injured youngster and transport her to the trailhead as the USFS attempted to reach her parents who were camping in Paradise Valley. The injury was not as serious as originally thought, and a trip to hospital was unnecessary.
A Deputy was told by a citizen that he saw a suspicious vehicle with two individuals in it stealing someone’s mail. A license plate was obtained by the concerned citizen and investigation showed that the vehicle owner was the resident where the mail was taken.
A number of calls complaining of fireworks were made throughout the county during the day, evening and night, including a caller who stated that it is improper for fireworks to continue on well after the 4th.
July 7
RLPD Officer checked the welfare of an individual in her vehicle in a gas station parking lot. The individual advised she had driven to the area to surprise her family who is camping in Red Lodge and was unable to locate them. She was too tired to make it home so was sleeping in her vehicle.
RLPD Officer checked on a male attempting to set up his camper in a FEMA condemned area. The person had hoped to temporarily park his camper at the spot, but had not gotten permission from the land owner. The camper was removed.
Another incident was reported of a vehicle being parked in the lot of Red Lodge Mountain when it was time to close and lock the gates. The owner of the vehicle was located and removed the vehicle so they could close for the night.
