Montana Independent News asked questions of the candidates for Clerk of Carbon County District Court: Rochelle Loyning (incumbent) and Jordan Pratt. Loyning replied, but Pratt did not respond to contact efforts by email and phone.
MIN: What makes you the better candidate to be Clerk of Court?
LOYNING: I have several years of experience with the judicial system ad am very familiar with Montana MCAs:
1.5 years as Justice Court Clerk
2 years as Deputy Clerk of District Court
17 years as Clerk of District Court
MIN: What will be your top priorities as Carbon County's Clerk of Court?
Loyning: To maintain a well-managed office that ensures a smooth-running court system; where actions are initiated, the files and records are maintained, final dispositions are recorde and all court proceedings revolve around the Clerk of District Court’s office.
MIN: What would you like to change on a statewide level to improve the system?
Loyning: I would love to see more self-help law centeres throughout the state, especially for our smaller counties. It is crucial for people to have a place that they an go to for assistance.
A new Jury Program would be very beneficial to all the counties in the state.
MIN: If you were given an additional $10,000 in the budget for services or equipment to allocate at your discretion, how would you allocate those funds?
Loyning: Top priority would be to get all our court records, that go back to 1895, digitized.
