The Billings office of the National Weather Service reports, critical fire weather conditions are expected Thursday into Thursday night. A cold front is expected to move through Thursday evening with gusty, shifting winds and increased thunderstorm activity. Added to highs in the triple digits, relative humidities down into the teens, and southwest winds Thursday afternoon gusting 25 to 35 mph, critical fire weather conditions will be present. Rapid fire growth is possible!
CarbonAlert states, “Please be aware of elevated fire danger this week. Carbon County and it's supporting fire districts are taking necessary precautions. We have closed open burning, elevated fire danger to 'High', enacted mutual aid response and have severity engines on standby for initial attack. Please do your part to minimize the start of wildland fires during these times of elevated fire weather conditions. Thank you!”
